In the mid-1990s a Siamese-mix named Tagrie strolled the Renton Highlands of Washington in custom-made outfits—everything from jewel-toned sweaters and satin capes to pint-sized sunglasses. His human, longtime local Clarence Armstrong, treated their daily walks like mini runway shows, stopping at Jack-in-the-Box, the neighborhood thrift store, and Highlands Park so passers-by could admire (and often photograph) the dapper duo. A 1995 KIRO-7 news segment captured the spectacle, cementing Tagrie’s status as an off-beat folk hero years before Instagram’s cat craze.
